Haivanship Assists Historic Arrival of MARAN GAS ACHILLES, Vietnam’s First LNG Import Vessel, at Thi Vai Terminal

On July 10, 2023, the Greek-flagged LNG carrier MARAN GAS ACHILLES successfully docked at Vietnam’s Thi Vai LNG Terminal in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, marking a significant milestone as the nation's first imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment.

Haivanship played a crucial role in this landmark event by providing expert tugboat services to ensure the safe and efficient berthing of the vessel. The operation involved:

  • Strategic Coordination: Collaborating with PV GAS, maritime pilots, and port authorities to develop a comprehensive berthing plan.

  • Tugboat Assistance: Deploying a fleet of high-powered Azimuth tugboats to guide the 70,000-ton LNG carrier through the channel to the terminal.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhering to stringent safety protocols to mitigate risks during the docking process.

The MARAN GAS ACHILLES transported approximately 70,000 metric tons of LNG from Bontang, Indonesia, supplied by Shell. This shipment is pivotal for Vietnam's energy diversification efforts and underscores the country's commitment to sustainable energy sources.

The Thi Vai LNG Terminal, operated by PV GAS, features a storage capacity of 180,000 m³ and is designed to handle vessels up to 100,000 DWT. The terminal's establishment is a strategic move to enhance Vietnam's energy infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions by transitioning to cleaner fuel alternatives.

Haivanship's successful assistance in this operation highlights its expertise in handling complex maritime tasks and its dedication to supporting Vietnam's evolving energy landscape.
